Alberta’s Gambling Restart Put On Hold
The restart of business in Alberta was supposed to begin this week or at the start of April. The Minister of Health has announced that the restart will be delayed for a little while. This is bad news for charitable organizations that rely on gambling funding.
There will be no charity nights for the time being. The organization that runs the charity events is worried about the lack of funding. Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission is waiting for table games to restart. There are concerns about their future. Heather Holmen is concerned that even if table game is restarted, some organizations might still consider it unsafe to host such an event.
Gambling charity events returned to Alberta with the previous relaunch of table games and businesses as a whole in the province in September 2020. The Crown corporation has held several fund-raising events for local organizations such as Youth Action Rally and the Alberta Youth Parliament.
