AGA Outlines Plan to Fight Illegal Gambling with Google’s Help
The American Gaming Association is opposed to illegal and offshore gambling sites. AGA's president Bill Miller stressed the importance of addressing this unregulated market. Miller is also concerned that Bovada still manages to draw in half of the nation’s total sports betting searches. FanDuel CEO Amy Howe estimates that $15 billion are wagered through offshore properties.
Miller and AGA have sent a letter to the Attorney General’s office in the hopes of criminalizing offshore gambling and going after the people responsible. DraftKings CEO Jason Robins has also sounded the alarm that offshore betting continues to grow despite better efforts by licensed regulators.
The brazen and coordinated way illegal gambling occurs has elevated the problem to a level that requires significant federal attention.
AGA wants Google to block search results for websites that are based offshore. Offshore gambling offers better overall gambling conditions. Some American bettors choose to keep accounts on offshore bookmakers despite the risks. Twenty-eight members of Congress joined AGA’s letter to AG Merrick Garland.
