After a global outage, Microsoft's Xbox Gaming service is back online
Today, due to the Xbox network failure, a large number of users reported that they encountered network interruption problems. The issues vary from the inability to access Cloud Gaming, to subscriptions or purchase issues. These malfunctions were persistent on the Xbox game console. Microsoft has confirmed that the platform is having some issues with the cloud capabilities it offers Xbox Network users.
According to the information shown on the Xbox support site, there were issues with the Store and subscriptions, cloud gaming and remote play, and even the core “Games and gaming” section. After nearly 7 hours of consistent work, the Xbox Gaming service is back online again.
From user feedback, the network problems on Xbox include but are not limited to:
- No purchases from the Microsoft Store, including any games, DLC, in-game purchases and accessories, regardless of payment method
- Cannot manage or make subscription purchases, including Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Live Gold, etc.
- Unable to launch Xbox cloud gaming dialog regardless of device
- Inability to launch and play many digital games, especially those included in subscriptions such as Xbox Game Pass
That said, during these hours, the Xbox console could only play physical or offline games, and few players survived. Fortunately, the Xbox network outage will not affect anything related to Xbox accounts, multiplayer games, social features, or other connected services and features. If you can start the game, it can run normally, including cloud saves, achievements, etc.
Time to buy an Xbox? Lots of top games may leave PlayStation soon
After the completion of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, the fate of some interesting games hangs in the balance. A Sony spokesman told The Wall Street Journal on Thursday, “We expect Microsoft to abide by contractual agreements to continue to ensure the multi-platform nature of Activision games,“. However, this is only an optimistic statement and not a certain statement. Phil Spencer, CEO, of Microsoft Gaming said
“Until this transaction closes, Activision Blizzard and Microsoft Gaming will continue to operate independently. Once the deal is complete, the Activision Blizzard business will report to me as CEO, Microsoft Gaming“. This statement suggests that whatever “contractual agreements” that Activision Blizzard had before its sale will be liquidated for a new “Microsoft agreement”.
Microsoft CEO said that Microsoft plans to bring as many Activision games as possible to Xbox Game Pass. There are also reports Microsoft may launch an Xbox console-exclusive Activision game. The company has done this after its previous acquisition of game developers.
In all, it appears that whether or not Activision Blizzard games will remain on PlayStation is a decision for Microsoft. Activision Blizzard is responsible for many popular titles like Call of Duty, Warcraft, CandyCrush, Tony Hawk, Diablo, Overwatch, and more.
It is worth mentioning that Spencer, also said earlier…”I just want to say to players who are playing Activision Blizzard games on the Sony PS platform, we have no intention of taking the community away from the platform, and we remain committed to at this point.”. According to Microsoft’s previously released statement, the planned acquisition includes Activision Blizzard and King Studio’s iconic franchises such as Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, Call of Duty, and Candy Crush Saga.
