Five gamblers held in Srinagar: Police

Stake money of Rs 15750 recovered

 Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday conducted raids at two gambling sites and arrested five person in Central Kashmir's Srinagar distict.  

As per police spokesperson, Based on tipoffs two gambling sites were raided at Chola Mohalla Khanyar and near JVC hospital Bemina. At the first the following gamblers were arrested: Arif Ahmad Chola S/O lt. GH Ahmad Chola R/O Aram Masjid Khanyar, Arshid Ahmad Mir S/O Lt. GH Nabi Mir R/O Konakhan.

He said stake money of 12300, playing cards and 04 mobiles phones were siezed from the gambling site.However a few gamblers namely Shabir Ahmad Chola S/O Ab Rehman R/O Chola Mohalla, Hilal Ahmad Chola S/O. Mohd Sultan R/O Chola Mohalla, Gowher Ahmad Halwai S/O Mohd Sultan R/O Anderwari Naidkadal, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat S/O Ali Mohd Bhat R/O Eidgah managed to escape from the spot. 

"In this regard case FIR NO. 27/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation taken up. The hunt to arrest these gamblers is on, " he added.

As revealed by the arrested gamblers, a stake money of more than 2 Lac was taken along by others who escaped from the scene.

Pertinently,  Chola mohalla has historically been infamous for organised gambling activities. Though police has raided the location repeatedly in the past, but the gambling activities never stopped for a considerable period of time.

 As reported by adjoining mohallas for the first time the Chola families are reported to have stoped organising gambling activities altogether.However, as per reliable sources they again started it 3 days ago, which was also corroborated through the disclosure by one of the gamblers caught today.

The spokesperson said that In another incident, on a specific input raid was conducted behind JVC hospital, where in an open field three gamblers were apprehended, namely: Mukhtar Ah Fafoo s/o Ali mohd fafoo r/o boatman Coloney, Amir Ah Kahloo s/o noor mohd kahloo r/o Mansoor Coloney and Shakeel Ahmad Misri s/o mohd Ramzan Misri r/o Mansoor Coloney .

"Playing cards and cash Rs 3450 recovered from their possession.

Fir no 48/22 u/s 13 Gambling act has been registered in PS Bemina," he said.
