Which States Might Legalize Online Casino Gaming In 2022?
PASPA was overturned and mobile sports betting is legal in over 30 states. Online casino gaming has been legal since 2013 in some states, including Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Indiana introduced two bills this week with the intention of legalizing iGaming within the Hoosier State. The bills would need to pass the House and Senate before they could be signed into law. There are over a dozen casinos operating in Indiana. Mobile sports betting is currently legal in the state.
Illinois is considered a state that may legalize online casinos in 2022. However, state Sen. Dave Syverson doesn't expect that to happen this year. He believes the focus will be on building land-based casinos before the consideration of online casino gaming. If the land based casinos have iCasino apps ready to launch, there could be a push toward legalizing online gaming in 2023 and beyond.
Maryland lottery launched retail sports betting in December. Online casino gaming is not legal in Maryland yet. It would need to be approved by a statewide referendum and then passed by the General Assembly. iCasinos will be legalized in 2022. Mobile sports gambling is on a slower timeline. iCasains will probably be available in late 2022, if approved.
Louisiana's legislative session for 2022 begins on March 14 and lasts through June 6. A bill would need to come up during that time for any potential movement toward legal iCasino gaming in Louisiana in 2022. iCasa is not currently on Louisiana’s radar.
