UK arcades cited in gambling criticism
Betting shops are ten times more likely to be found in deprived towns than in affluent areas. Only ten per cent of all food stores are in poorer areas, but there are 34 per Cent of amusement arcades, 30 percent of bingo locations and 29 perCent of adult gaming centres.
20% of gambling premises in the UK are located in deprived areas. Amusement arcades are cited in a university study. The study highlights a disproportion between the amenities available on the high street for people living in deprivation and those available to people in wealthier areas, such as food stores. John White, CEO at trade association Bacta, commented that businesses are situated close to where their customers live.
