Twice as many gambling game accounts belong to customers in most deprived places
29% of online gambling accounts belong to the most deprived areas in Britain. Just 13% come from the least deprived places. A quarter of customer losses from gaming came from 20% most deprivation areas. 15% came to least deprivation places, according to study.
The study found that betting is most popular, but gaming is associated with a higher likelihood of incurring heavy losses. The study also found the heavy spending groups included “many” players from very deprived areas. The top 10% of gambling accounts contributed 79% to the industry. Professor Forrest believes it's important to raise awareness of the gambling harms associated from online gaming.
