That’s because two separate bills filed last February that called for legalizing online casino gaming and poker, and which would also allow the state to join a multi-jurisdictional gaming compact, are still very much alive in the Illinois General Assembly.
Since the legislature meets biennially — meaning over a two-year period — both bills are technically still alive. Either or both have until January 11, 2025, to win passage. That’s the last day of the current legislative session in Illinois, according to LegiScan, a website that tracks federal and state legislation.
