These are the heists that cost Las Vegas casinos millions
A man robbed Resorts World on the Strip earlier this week. MIT blackjack team won up to $57 million from counting cards in Las Vegas casinos between 1979 and 1994.
The Biker Bandit robbed the Bellagio in 2010 of $1.5 million worth of chips. He was caught because he bragged about it. Anthony Michael Carleo is serving between 9 and 27 years in a Nevada state prison.
The Bellagio was the scene of a robbery in 2000. Jose Vigoa stole $160,000 worth of chips from the cashier. He is serving four life sentences for multiple robberies and the murder of two armored truck guards.
Royal Hopper and his sons robbed the Stardust casino in 1991 using smoke bombs. They stole $1.1 million in cash and checks from an armored truck.
Bill Brennan stole $500,000 from Stardust Sportsbook in 1992. FBI placed him on its Most Wanted list until 2006, but the case was dismissed.
Treasure Island heist cost Las Vegas casinos millions. Reginald Johnson robbed Treasure Island in July and October 2000 and took $30,000. On his third attempt, in December, he shot at and injured security guards. He later pleaded guilty to robbery and attempted murder charges.
In 2005, two masked men robbed the change booth at Mandalay Bay. They fired warning shots into the ceiling and forced the workers to the ground. The robbers stole an undisclosed amount of money.
In 2017 someone robbed the Bellagio poker room and in 2014 a man tried to rob the resort by swiping casino chips off tables. In the latter case Michael Belton and another man sprayed a blackjack dealer with pepper spray and grabbed $115,000 worth of chips.
