Tamil Nadu bans online gambling and online games of chance. Governor R.N. Ravi promulgates an ordinance. Online games will be regulated. The Online Gaming Authority will have four members, including a retired police officer and experts in information technology and gaming. It will also have an appellate authority. The earlier law had banned games such as rummy and poker on cyberspace with stakes. Those who indulge in online gaming will get the punishment of imprisonment of up to three months or a fine of ₹5,000. There is no estimate of the number of providers of online game in the State.
Online games have affected the concentration of students. This was the overwhelming response from teachers during a survey conducted by the State government.
