India: Tamil Nadu passes bill to ban online gambling and regulate online gaming
Tamil Nadu passed a bill to ban online gambling and regulate online gaming. Governor RN Ravi promulgated an ordinance to prohibit online betting and to regulate the online games of chance on October 7. Lawyer Jay Sayta believes the ordinance will be challenged in court within a week. The state believes that online casinos and online fantasy games are dangerous. According to the survey, 74% of teachers surveyed said that the focus of students is impacted by online game. 67% noticed more students have eye defects. It is also said gaming addiction is affecting public health.
Tamil Nadu's cabinet approved the ordinance to ban online gambling in early September. The government has made two attempts to pass legislation outlawing online gaming. The legislation states that no supplier of online games can offer online betting services or permit the gaming of any online game that violates the rules.
