Sweden Scraps Proposal to Cap Online Casino Deposits

Swedish government decided against implementing COVID-19-based restrictions on online casinos.

The government has rejected plans for online casino restrictions.

The government has scrapped a proposed online slots deposit cap of SEK4,000 ($423) and a SE kat100 ($10.59) limit on sign-up bonuses. BOS had warned that the restrictions would remove a cornerstone of Swedish consumer protection in the gaming law.

There are COVID-19 cases in Sweden, the highest ever. The government wants to introduce a mandatory online casino deposit cap of SEK5,000 ($548.76) in July 2020. BOS says the restrictions would not achieve their purpose of protecting public health.

Sweden scrapped the proposal to cap deposits at online casinos. Kindred called the plans "ill-founded" on Twitter.

Shekarabi announced a raft of new gambling proposals on Wednesday. They include imposing a mandatory licensing for gaming suppliers operating in Sweden. The ministry also mooted “stricter requirements for moderation” within the sphere of gambling marketing.
