A report by consultancy Skopm commissioned by regulator Spelinspektionen included a survey of 1,600 adults in Sweden about their gambling habits in 2021. 53% of past-year gamblers believe that there are advantages to playing with licensed sites, whereas only 2% deliberately and knowingly played with an unlicensed site. 31% listed an operator being licensed as among the most important reasons to choose an operators. Just 10% knew how to identify whether an Operator is licensed.

72% of adults in Sweden had gambled during 2021. This figure is down slightly year-on-year. Men are more likely to have gambl in the past week than women. Lotteries are the most popular form of gambling in Swedes. Casino gaming, poker and slots are less popular. Less than 1% have sought help for gambling harm.

Gambling companies take responsibility for gambling problems to some extent, but only 4% say they take sufficient social responsibility. 48% probably don't take enough responsibility, and 18% don’t know.

Sweden is working on a bill to bring in permits for online gambling suppliers. The trade association Branscheförenigen för Onlinespel is concerned about the impact it will have on channelisation.
