Steve Cohen Meets With Locals to Discuss Casino Plans
Steve Cohen met with more than 500 Queen residents last Saturday to discuss development plans for CitiField. He is considering bringing a casino to the Willets Point property. Some residents are opposed to this idea. Cohen is also considering making a bid for one of the three downstate casino licenses.
CitiField Casino Site is a Public Parkland.
The Queens Civic Congress is opposed to the development of the Queens Parkland. The parkland has been leased to New York Mets since 1961 to use for a stadium and parking area. A shopping mall was once proposed for the same site but the state Court of Appeals ruled that it is public park land.
Steve Cohen is one of several personalities who want to bid for a casino license in New York. Caesars Entertainment is partnering with SL Green to build a Caedars Palace Times Square at the 1515 Building in Times square. Wynn Resorts has joined forces with Related Companies to propose a Casino at an undeveloped portion of Hudson Yards. Thor Equities has brought in Saratoga Gaming and Chickasaw Nation to make a bid in Brooklyn’s Coney Island. Stefan Soloviev wants to submit a proposal for casino south of the UN. Vornado”s Steve Roth is eyeing a gambling destination in Herald Square. Las Vegas Sands is keen on submitting a plan for Nassau County Casino. Empire City Casino in Yonkers and Resort World NewYork in Queens are considered the favorites to receive two of three downstate New Yorkers casino licenses.
