SNEAK PEEK: Inside the new land-based Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner
KENNER, La. (WVUE) - For the first time in 30 years, the Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner will operate from a land-based facility.
The new 48,000 square-foot location, across the levee from the former riverboat site, opens to the public on Thurs., June 6. The riverboat closed on Saturday.
Crews are finalizing preparations, including testing games and ensuring compliance with the Louisiana State Police’s gaming regulations.
Boyd Gaming, the owner of Treasure Chest, says the new one-story building provides a more comfortable experience for customers.
“Treasure Chest has always been one of our most successful casino properties,” David Strow, Vice President of Boyd Gaming corporate communications said. “But there has always been the potential to do so much more.”
The new facility features four restaurants and a convention space.
“This has been about an 18-month buildout for us,” Strow said.
Strow says they hope the added amenities attract more people, including locals who may not have visited the casino before.
“[The amenities] are going to take somebody who lives in Kenner who’s never visited Treasure Chest because they’ve had no interest. And to have them say ‘I want to check out that steak house, I want to check out that sports bar. Why don’t we do a wedding reception in one of the Magnolia Rooms?’ It gives people a reason to come to Treasure Chest,” Strow said.
Boyd Gaming has invested $100 million into the project.
While the casino boasts many new games, the staff from the riverboat casino have transitioned to the new location and are getting familiar with the new property.
A notable change for guests is the convenience of on-site parking, eliminating the need for shuttle services.
Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Michael Glaser, casino leaders, and community members will cut the ribbon on the new Treasure Chest.
