Smoke Signals jackpot winner collects just over $1.5M
The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority presented a cheque for just over $1.5 million on Monday to the latest winner of its Smoke Signals progressive slot machine jackpot.
Lanford Montgrand of Regina was announced as the winner. A SIGA media release issued Monday stated he won while playing slots at the Dakota Dunes Casino, located on the Whitecap First Nation south of Saskatoon.
Montgrand is originally from La Loche, located about 600 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.
“I didn’t want to be all cliche and say I’m just a typical small-town boy with big dreams, but I literally didn’t come from much. I’m very thankful, grateful, fortunate, lucky and I was just at the right place at the right time,” he said in the release.
Montgrand went on to say he planned to make good use of the windfall.
“I know it’s a life changing win as long as it’s used wisely, which will happen because I like to think I have a good head on my shoulders from the way I was raised. Lastly, don’t worry Mom and Dad, it’s going to pay off dealing with me in my younger years,” he said.
This is Montgrand’s second jackpot win this year; he previously won about $65,000 on The Dreamer Jackpot at Dakota Dunes in August.
The Smoke Signals is a progressive jackpot linking 51 slot machines across all seven SIGA casinos in Saskatchewan. After Montgrand’s win, the jackpot is reset to $1 million.
