Slot-like games found all over Pennsylvania may soon be legal, but do they do more harm or good?
Pa. senator will introduce a bill to legalize and tax slot-like games. The company behind them threw a party at the Federal Tap House in Harrisburg on Tuesday. They have been operating in legal limbo for years. Senator Tommy Tomlinson says the company has been running an illegal operation for many years and now they want to be legal. The Pa. lottery says skill machines have siphoned $500 million in sales. Pennsylvania National Gaming says Senator Yaw's proposal would “reward bad actors”
Penn National released a statement in response to skill games.
Pennsylvania is considering a law that would legalize slot-like games. Penn National opposes this because they think it would be bad for the community. The General Assembly has rejected this type of careless gaming expansion in the past.
Illegal slot-like games are costing the Lottery more than $500 million since the fall of 2017. They are in more of the lottery's network of 9,900 retailers. The General Assembly authorized the gambling expansion bill 4 years ago. It would be irresponsible and reckless to approve any additional gaming before the expansion is complete. It's important to understand that slot machines play an integral role in funding property tax relief for Pennsylvanians. This bill could hurt the other gaming options.
