Shorelines Casino and Staff Now Closer to an Agreement
Shorelines Casino Belleville's management and the staff have reached a tentative agreement. On Wednesday, Unifor and casino will vote on the ratification of the agreement between the two sides. More than 90 unionized workers from the casino walked off the job on Friday to form a picket line in front of their workplace.
The union representing workers at the casino in Belleville has reached a tentative agreement with the employer Great Canadian Gaming Corporation. The union's entire negotiation team is at a location and they are willing to work out a deal suitable for the workers and the company. If the agreement is ratified, the picket line will stop and workers will be able to return to their jobs.
The strike at Shorelines Casino Belleville is illegal and unsafe. On Saturday the protestors blocked the parking lot via the main entrance. The situation was eased on Sunday. Due to the lack of staff, the casino is now operated by its management.
The casino in Belleville was closed since the breakout of the virus in March 2020. It was allowed to reopen this summer, but under restricted capacity and strict health protocols.
