Run-in to new Dutch online gambling law
Unlicensed online gambling operators accessing the Dutch market must close down during the cooling-off period after the regulated online market opens next week.
If they don’t then they will face sanctions from the Dutch Gambling Authority, they were warned this week.
The regulated market in the Netherlands opens on October 1 and the rule took the industry by surprise. Previously, the illegal operators had been given assurances that they would be able to continue to operate and still have an opportunity to gain a licence in the country later.
The subject will be a major factor in the 2021 Gaming in Holland Conference set for Amsterdam on September 28 when the Gambling Authority chairman, René Jansen, will speak to delegates just three days in advance of the new market opening.
