A gambler took home what is being called a ‘record’ win at a casino in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip.

The Cosmopolitan said one lucky player scored $1 million while playing video poker on Monday.

“The #LaborDay party kicked off with one high limit video poker player winning $1,000,000 on a dealt monster—our new record for the largest non-wide area progressive jackpot ever hit at The Cosmopolitan,” the casino tweeted.

The caption accompanied a photo of the video poker screen, which read: “Jackpot Handpay: $1,000,000. Verification required, please call attendant.”

The big prize appeared to have been won on a Ten Play Draw poker machine on a game of Triple Double Bonus Poker.

The winning hand was four aces and a kicker (a.k.a., a side card that does not take part in determining the rank of the hand, but may be used to break ties between hands of the same rank). So, in this case, the three of clubs.

The player had just over $35,000 in credits left when they won the jackpot with a $1,250 spin.

A wide area progressive is a system that links slot machines across many casinos to generate large jackpots (think Wheel of Fortune or Megabucks) and are paid by the machine manufacturer.

In this case, the “non wide area progressive” (also known as “local progressive”) jackpots are always worth the same amount – no matter how many times, or how frequently they are won on – and are paid by the casino.

The Cosmopolitan is one of the Strip’s newer casinos, opening its doors in December 2010.

The casino has not released any further information about the player or the winnings.
