Opening of Nagasaki, Osaka Casino Resorts Facing Delays
The opening of casino resorts in Nagasaki and Osaka could be delayed due to additional screening.
Nagasaki and Osaka are planning to build integrated resorts. Wakayama pulled out of the casino contest in April. The opening of Nagasaki's casino is expected to be delayed until 2027, while Osaka's is planned for 2029.
The different regions submitted their Japan casino proposals back in April. Bally’s Corporation submitted a late bid for an IR project in Fukuoka in the last month. Osaka is hoping to develop a resort on an artificial island in Osaka Bay. Nagasaki's proposal has issues related to its funding feasibility.
Gambling became legal in Japan in 2018. Nagasaki and Osaka are the only two regions to apply for a license. The government plans for three integrated casino resorts to be built in the country.
