The race for Japan’s first casino resort is down to Nagasaki, Osaka, and possibly Fukuoka. Wakayama voted no to an IR.

Nagasaki's Assembly approved the casino resort bill by a majority vote. The project requires procurement funds totaling $3.42 billion. Wakayama's assembly rejected the project on Wednesday. The IR is expected to open in Sasebo around autumn 2027.

Caesars Entertainment has lost out on a project to develop a casino resort in Wakayama. The Assembly voted down the Wakyama IR because of the fundraising plan. The Wakyaama project sought a starting investment of $3.67bn.

Wakayama is out of the running for the IR project. Osaka Prefecture and its capital city will submit their already approved IR development plan to the central government soon. Bally’s Corporation wants to build a ¥480bn (US$3.94bn) IR in Fukuoka.
