Online Gambling Company Loses IP Fight to Protect Wager Method
Two online gambling companies persuaded a federal judge to dismiss a rival betting platform’s patent infringement claims against the companies because the allegedly infringing technology isn’t patent-eligible.
The four patents at issue, owned by Game Play Network Inc., provide a system to show a user one form of gambling, such as a slot machine, while actually wagering a user’s bet on another form of gambling, such as horse racing. It’s often used to get around state rules that allow some types of betting but not others.
