Oaklawn officially a casino, debuts live craps and blackjack
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — It's a big day at Oaklawn Racing Casino and Resort in Hot Springs as they are now officially calling themselves a casino and operating with live dealers. Oaklawn debuted two live Craps and six Blackjack tables to the casino Monday at noon.
The Arkansas Racing Commission recently approved full casino licenses for Oaklawn in Hot Springs and Southland in West Memphis.
"It lets us offer the new games that we offered today, we have new themes of traditional slot machines that we never before had, so it really opens it up," said Louis Cella, President of Oaklawn.
Now as a legal casino, there are more changes coming. The next big thing they’re getting ready for is a sportsbook.
"There’s an awful lot of logistical work and detail work that has to come into play, but we hope within the next 30 days, we'll be able to offer sports wagering and given the current NCAA basketball tournament and bracket busters, it’ll be a very exciting time here," Cella said.
The sportsbook is likely to open within the next few weeks.
In May, they'll break ground on their expansion, including 28,000 square feet of additional gaming plus a 200 room hotel with a pool.
