Oakland County Man Wins $1.5 Million Lotto 47 Double Play Jackpot
An Oakland County man had a million-and-a-half thoughts running through his head after he won $1.5 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s Lotto 47 Double Play game.
The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the winning Lotto 47 Double Play numbers on July 5: 20-25-26-27-36-44. He bought his winning ticket at the Carnival Market, located at 1101 East Walton Boulevard in Pontiac.
“I saw a message online that someone had won the Lotto 47 Double Play and recognized the location, but I didn’t think there was any way I was the winner,” said the player. “As soon as I checked my ticket, my mind was racing and thinking about how I could use the money for my family.”
The player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of about $1 million rather than annuity payments for the full amount.
“Winning is life changing and means financial security for my family,” the winner said.
The Double Play add-on game gives players a second chance to win with each Lotto 47 drawing for $1 more per panel per draw. After each Lotto 47 drawing, a second set of winning Double Play numbers are drawn. Double Play non-jackpot prizes are doubled. The top prize is $1.5 million for Lotto 47. Players may win prizes in the regularly nightly drawing, the Double Play drawing, or both. Double Play launched in January 2019.
Each Lotto 47 play is only $1. Players select six numbers from one to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot starting at $1 million and that grows until someone wins it. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Lotto 47 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $1.5 million in the nightly Double Play drawing. For an additional $1 per game, players may add EZMatch to their ticket for a chance to win up to $500 instantly. Lotto 47 drawings take place on Wednesday and Saturday at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at a retailer or online at MichiganLottery.com until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
