New Jersey gaming revenue up 8.3% for May 2024

New Jersey's total gaming revenue rose 8.3% in May 2024, reaching $510m, driven by strong growth in online gaming despite a slight dip in sports betting revenue. 

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has announced the state's total gaming revenue results for May 2024. The figures indicate a positive performance across various sectors of the gambling industry, despite some areas showing mixed results.

For the month of May, casino win for the nine casino hotel properties in New Jersey reached $239.1m – this represents a 5.2% increase compared to May 2023 results.

Year-to-date, casino win stands at $1.11bn, remaining essentially flat compared to the same period last year.

Internet gaming continues to show growth. Revenue from internet gaming win reported by casinos and its partners totalled $192.1m in May 2024, a 19.0% increase from last month’s result.

Year-to-date, internet gaming win has reached $942.8m, reflecting a 20.6% rise from the previous year-to-date period. 

Sports wagering, however, presented a different trend. Gross revenue from sports wagering reported by casinos, racetracks and its partners was $78.8m in May 2024, showing a 4.2% decrease compared to last month. Despite this monthly decline, year-to-date sports wagering gross revenue has increased by 37.0%, reaching $513.0m compared to the previous year-to-date period. 

Overall, total gaming revenue for May 2024 was $510.0m, marking an 8.3% increase from last month. Year-to-date total gaming revenue stands at $2.57bn, a 13.1% rise from the same period last year.

These results follow a positive trend observed earlier in the year. For instance, in February 2024, New Jersey’s total gaming revenue increased by 12% to $461.5m, driven primarily by growth in online gaming and sports betting, despite a slight dip in casino win. February's internet gaming win showed a 27.9% annual rise, while sports wagering gross revenue grew by 23.7%.
