Gaming supplier Light & Wonder is partnering with Netflix to launch a new slot machine based on the streaming service‘s popular Squid Game, a South Korean survival drama.
Squid Game is expected to hit casino floors in 2024. Built by Light & Wonder, the slot will include familiar features from Squid Game such as “Red Light, Green Light,” “Tug of War,” and “The Glass Tile.” Light & Wonder is also launching a digital adaption of the themed game, featuring three bonus rounds inspired by games from the series.

According to a Light & Wonder spokesperson, the Squid Game slot machine will have a top prize starting at between $200,000 and $400,000. The game marks Netflix‘s first product licensing deal in the gambling industry.
A ground-breaking show
Matt Wilson, Light & Wonder Chief Executive Officer, commented on the new game launch. He said: “Light & Wonder is proud to be the first slots gaming company in the industry to partner with Netflix’s Squid Game and bring this ground-breaking show to life across multiple casino gaming platforms.”
Making its global debut on Light & Wonder’s new large-screen jumbo cabinet Horizon, the slot features a 75-inch screen with 600,000 individual micro-LED pixels. The cabinet also offers a 27-inch touchscreen, mobile charger, and dual play buttons “for an immersive and seamless player experience.”
In March 2022, Light & Wonder formally changed its name from Scientific Games – after selling off its lottery business to Brookfield Business Partners for $5.8bn. Following the announcement, the newly branded Light & Wonder said they were placing more focus on online gambling operations.

Released in 2021, Squid Game is a show that follows characters competing in children‘s games with deadly high stakes to win over $33m.

The show was so successful that a second season of Squid Game is also in the works, while Netflix has set a November 22 premiere date for Squid Game: The Challenge. This is a reality show where over 450 contestants worldwide will compete for a single $4.56m cash prize.
This isn‘t the only thing that Netflix has in the pipeline. Opening in Los Angeles on December 6, Netflix is launching a pop-up immersive experience called Squid Game: The Trials. Here, players will compete in six different games over the course of 70 minutes.
