Morongo Player Wins Cancer Battle And $371,000 Jackpot
A Morongo slots player who is also a cancer survivor won a $371,689 jackpot June 30 at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, turning a $1.50 bet into an enormous jackpot at the world-class casino.
Thomas S., a Southern California resident recently won his battle with cancer after completing several months of chemotherapy and was given the "all clear" sign by his doctors to start traveling again. His son asked him where he wanted to go to celebrate and Thomas declared he wanted to go to Morongo Casino Resort & Spa.
Lady Luck came quick as Thomas was only sitting at the Wheel of Fortune progressive slot machine for ten minutes when, to his surprise, he won the jackpot.
"I was and still am in absolute awe," Thomas said. "This is one of my biggest fantasies and it came true."
Thomas said after he hit the jackpot, he kept staring at the numbers not believing what he was seeing.
"I called my son to come over because I thought it couldn't be right," Thomas said. "I truly was in the right place at the right time."
The popular slot machine is branded after the Wheel of Fortune game show hosted by Pat Sajak and Vanna White.
"We are elated to congratulate our latest big winner, who turned a small bet into a windfall on one of our most popular slots, proving once again that it pays to play at Morongo," said Morongo Chief Operating Officer Richard St. Jean.
With more than $875,000 in winnings paid out daily, Morongo operates one of the largest casino floors in the Western states. The recently-expanded Morongo gaming floor now encompasses 200,000 square feet and includes over 80 table games and 3,000 of the newest, loosest slots.
