Michigan Lottery scam alert: Winners aren't offering you money
The Michigan Lottery issued a warning about two common lottery scams. One of them uses Tanya Wildt's name to lure victims. She's been contacted by people via email saying she's offering them money. The scam usually begins when a person is contacted and convinced to send money to someone claiming to be a lottery prize winner.
The Michigan Lottery warns about two types of lottery scams. One involves sending a scammer a text message claiming to be Mrs Tanya Wildt, who won $500 million in Michigan Jackpot. The other involves a person getting a letter, email, text or phone call to inform them they've won a big lottery prize and must pay a fee to collect it. The Michigan lottery processes all prize claims for free and players must have a valid winning ticket to claim a prize. To check if a lottery offer is legitimate, the public can contact the Lotteries' Player Relations Division at 844-887-6836 or via email at onlinehelp@michiganlottery.com.
