Meghalaya Doesn’t Think Scrapping Gaming Act Is Good
Meghalaya in India is likely to proceed with its legalization push. The state chief minister Conrad K. Sangma said repealing the existing Meghlaya Regulation of Gaming Act (2021) would result in serious losses for the budget.
Meghalaya wants to introduce changes to the Gaming Act to regulate gambling better. The chief minister agrees that more needs to be done to achieve a better, and more sustainable gambling environment. There are also calls to add a GST rate on various gambling operations.
Meghalaya doesn't think scrapping Gaming Act is good. Sangma is already involved with a group of fellow lawmakers and wants to study the effects of introducing GST rates on the existing gambling sector.
The state is a revenue deficit state. It is getting a share of taxes from the central government.
Sangma plans to introduce casinos and online gambling in Meghalaya. Meghanah United Christian Forum is against it. Some locals have been participating in illegal and black market gambling activities.
