Meadowlands Owner: I'll Wait For NYC Casino Battles To Play Out
Meadowlands Racetrack owner Jeff Gural wants to wait for the outcome of the New York City-area casino battle. Gurah has a lucrative partnership with FanDuel to provide sports betting at the East Rutherford track and online. He believes a casino being located in Manhattan is a pipe dream.
There are only three licenses for casinos in New York state. Gural is a real estate mogul with decades of practical political experience in Manhattan. He believes there will be no casino in the area other than Aqueduct and Yonkers racinos. The four upstate commercial casinos that opened in 2018 were in economically depressed areas.
Meadowlands owner Gural wants to wait for the NYC Casino Battles to play out. Gura thinks Citi Field is the favorite for a casino license.
Meadowlands owner Gural was eager to see a Meadowlands casino get approved back in 2016, but the proposal failed. He believes some elected officials were doing him a favor by getting the concept on the ballot. Gurley is the only advocate for a casino referendum this fall. The Supreme Court will take up the sports betting case in June 2017. The COVID-19 pandemic hurt business at the track. It forced people to stay home and bet on their phones. They said it was easier than coming to the racetrack.
