Casino Developers Want to Gamble on New York City

New York voters approved a referendum to issue and approve seven private casino licenses in 2013. Four of them were awarded to upstate casinos. There is a concurrent ban on new casinos until next year. Lawmakers are considering opening up bids for new casino locations this year and overturning the law.
There are potentially three licenses for new casinos in New York. There are nine companies interested in getting in on the action. Some of the developers that are currently eyeing the new licenses include Resorts World New. City in Queens, the MGM-owned Empire City Casino in Yonkers, Wynn Resort, Limited Report, Rush Street Gaming, Hard Rock International, Bally’s Corporation, and the Water Club in Manhattan.
Developers are considering building casinos in New York City. The Hard Rock Hotel New Yorkers is set to open in April. If the licenses are granted, developers are also considering Meadowlands Racetrack and Citi Field in Queens.
