Manitoba Lays Off Casino Staff after Table Games Modernization
The Canadian Gaming Association is considering introducing electronic table games in several Winnipeg casinos. Many casino workers will lose their jobs if the new technology is implemented. Manitoba had to close down its land-based casino facilities in March 2020. The casinos were allowed to reopen in July under strict safety conditions and rules but were later closed down in October 2020 and remain nonoperational.
Manitoba casinos might be on the verge of digitalization. The Canadian Gaming Association is considering introducing electronic table games as a way to safely reopen venues in the province. It will cost more than 100 jobs. 150 people have been offered a voluntary buyout. Over 124 accepted it, 24 personnel returned to their positions and two were laid off. The new technology will be installed at the Club Regent Casino, McPhillips Station Casino and the Shark Club Gaming Centre.
Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries has saved millions of dollars after the significant layoff count due to the emergence of the situation closing down all land-based casinos.
Lori Ann Mann, 51, is accused of defrauding the Casino of Winnipeg of CA$275,000.
