Macau casino revenue hits 2021 low, direct investment slumps in 2020
October was the worst month for Macau casinos. Revenue dropped 40% YoY and 26% from the previous month. It was also down 83% against pre-pandemic 2019. The news comes amid pandemic-related restrictions and a gambling law review. Macao entered a state of immediate prevention from September 25 to October 15.
The number of visitor arrivals to Macau has been increasing steadily since late October. Macaus recorded 28,299 arrivals on October 26, the highest daily tally since September. The enclave is also facing uncertainties regarding the proposal to review the enclave's gaming law. Direct investment in Macao's casino industry declined by 30% to $15.8 billion in 2020.
