Las Vegas Strip Casino May Not Close, Famed Attraction Doomed
Hard Rock International bought Mirage for $1 billion in December. Rumors about the future of the famous free attraction were rife. CEO James Allen confirmed that the volcano would be replaced by a guitar-shaped hotel. The main tower of Mirage would probably be closed and gutted. Hard Rock is pushing back on those stories.
Hard Rock International plans to close the Mirage and renovate the entire three-wing hotel and casino. The company takes over from MGM this week. The closure of the casino could be an option a year and a half down the road. It's expected to happen no later than the end of this year.
Hard Rock closed Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at Mirage. The new owner of the resort has given the Beatles Love Cirque du Soleil show a stay of execution. MGM will continue to run gaming operations at the Las Vegas Strip Casino through its BetMGM brand.
