Japan Issues Arrest Warning to Online Casino Site Users
Authorities in Japan have issued a warning to people who use online casinos. The use of offshore online gambling platforms is illegal in the country. The Consumer Affairs Agency and the National Police Agency in Japanese released a new ad campaign on Monday.
Gambling is illegal in Japan. The NPA arrested 18 people in 2019 and 16 people for illegally using online casinos. Gambling-related crimes carry a maximum three-year prison sentence and a fine of up to US$3,403.
An estimated two million people in Japan gamble online. Up to three integrated casino resorts are set to be built in the coming years. The prime minister has confirmed that online casinos will remain illegal.
