Jackpot! Virginia Lottery distributes record $779 million to K-12 public schools
The Virginia Lottery had record-setting profits in 2021-22. The big winner for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2022 was K-12 public education in Virginia.
The record profit from the lottery sales of more than $3.75 billion was distributed to K-12 public schools in the Commonwealth. The local allocations for FY22 include Harrisonburg City, Rockingham County, Augusta County and Albemarle County. The funds are allocated to support vital programs in every school district in Virginia.

Virginia Lottery Board has expanded its role in licensing and regulating mobile sports betting and casino gaming. By the end of the fiscal year on June 30, Virginia had 13 licensed active sports betters and Hard Rock Bristol opened its doors on July 8. HR Bristol generated $11.7 million in adjusted gross revenues from slots and table games in the month of July.
