Illinois officials approve a temporary Hard Rock Casino for Rockford. The location was formerly a convention center and restaurant. It is expected that the venue will house about 730 slot machines. Construction is estimated to take about three months.
Joseph Castrogiovanni was denied a gaming license by the IGB in April. He failed to tell the board that he was charged with reckless conduct in July 2020. In that case, he shot a warning shot at a car on his family property. The bullet hit the car and stopped in a pouch behind the passenger seat. Castroiovanni's company bought out the family and purchased the building.
Hard Rock casino will pay the city around $7 million each year. The city will get funding equivalent to 1% of the adjusted casino and sports betting revenues for the first two years of operation. After that, the yearly amount will be adjusted to .5% and one thousand full-time jobs are expected to be created.
