I did a 'double take' after winning $272,806 playing a lesser known lottery game
LOTTERY games have evolved to the point where players don't need to fuss with scratch-off cards or number slips for a chance to win big.
The Virginia Lottery's Scrooge game is taking the Bah Humbug out of the holiday season.
It's a unique online game where the aim is to get a cluster of three or more matching symbols to win a prize.
Player Cindy Red had to "do a double take" when she realized she had won $272,806 on the game.
She works as a network engineer and has no immediate plans for the cash except to pay bills.
Scrooge has a progressive, growing jackpot which is now up to an estimated $924,108.
The person who won before Red earned a whopping $1,874,152.
It costs between 10 cents and $30 to play. If players reveal a Scrooge symbol in the middle block along with a feature symbol they can win an instant prize, activate 10 free plays, or unlock a Bonus Game.
The state lottery allows players to buy tickets online for Mega Millions, Powerball, Cash4Life, Cash 5 with EZ Match, Pick 4, and Pick 3.
Man Nguyen from Annandale, Virginia, also won his prize from a game he played online.
He won $1 million playing Mega Millions in July after choosing an Easy Pick, when a computer selects numbers to play at random.
Fellow Virginia resident Tracy Neff was the first person to win a top prize in the 100X the Money game.
He spent $30 on the ticket and won a huge jackpot of $5 million.
"I just about passed out!" Neff told Virginia Lottery officials.
He chose to get the money as a lump sum totaling $3,125,000.
There are two other $5 million prizes remaining.
Two lottery tickets totaling $880,000 have yet to be claimed.
Plus, see three unclaimed jackpots worth as much as $600,000.
