How will New York City casinos affect Wind Creek Bethlehem?
Wind Creek Bethlehem is a straight shot down Interstate 78 from New York City. Trans-Bridge Lines has a daily trip from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan to Wind Creek with stops at Newark Airport and Clinton, New Jersey. Several other companies based in New jersey offer daily and weekly trips.
Wind Creek is a popular casino in New York. Before the pandemic, at least 50 buses a day would come from Asian American areas of Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan’s Chinatown. Now, the buses are less popular, but still a huge draw. New casinos in the New Yorkers' area would have to offer something that new casinos don't have. Wind Creek has been preparing for a New Yorker presence. It is spending at at $90 million to build a 276-room hotel and another 35,000 square feet of meeting/events space. The hotel is scheduled to be completed later this year.
There are no advisory committees for New York City casinos. The application for a casino would need to be approved by two-thirds vote from all five boroughs. There are already two casinos in the city with video lottery terminal games attached to horse racing tracks. MGM Resorts in Yonkers and Genting in Queens have already established themselves around the New Yorkers.
