The jackpot of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s annual 50/50 draw has surpassed $50,000.

“As we know from previous years, tickets will sell fast and the jackpot will grow significantly in the next two weeks, so the lucky winner is sure to take home a life-changing payout when the winning ticket is drawn,” the foundation said in a news release.

The draw for the Igniting Healthcare 50/50 FUNdraiser will take place July 13 at 1 p.m. Ticket sales close that day at 12 p.m.

“Chatham-Kent has once again come out strong in support of the Igniting Healthcare 50/50 FUNdraiser, making it a great success thus far,” Mary Lou Crowley, president and CEO of the foundation, said in the release.

“With the help of our amazing community, we can finish this campaign stronger than we’ve ever finished before, enabling the purchase of life-saving equipment for our local hospital sites.”

Proceeds will be used to support the purchase of two new pulmonary function test units for the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance – one for each of the Chatham and Wallaceburg sites.

PFT units are noninvasive diagnostic testing units that show how well the lungs are working, and they have been identified as a high priority need for replacement at the Health Alliance, the release said.

“PFT units are critical pieces of equipment as they provide a safe and quick way to diagnose a wide variety of respiratory illnesses,” Bob Hockney, chair of the foundation board of directors, said in the release.

“Patients at CKHA’s Chatham and Wallaceburg sites will benefit greatly from this ongoing fundraising effort.”

The MCH family of companies is sponsoring the fundraiser for the fourth consecutive year.

The foundation will have in-person sales in Chatham-Kent throughout the remaining weeks of the campaign at locations across the community. Tickets can also be purchased at the foundation office, located at 9 Ursuline Ave. in Chatham, and are available for purchase online at www.ignite5050.ca.

The foundation will also post updates on sales locations and the jackpot to their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Tickets can only be purchased by Ontario residents over 18 years of age.
