Dad-of-two scoops £54,000 jackpot from £1 bet at Scots casino
A lucky punter scooped a monster £54,000 from a Scots casino - and had no idea he'd won.
Dad-of-two Deivis Karklins from Aberdeen bagged the bumper payout playing as his local Grosvenor.
The 35-year-old construction worker was playing Blackjack at the site, where he visited monthly with friends.
Alongside the main Blackjack game, Deivis played the £1 Ace King Progressive side bet game, which comes with a rolling jackpot.
To win, the player and dealer must be dealt a Blackjack with an ace and a king of the same suit.
Deivis, father to an eight-year-old son and three-year-old daughter, recently moved to the Granite City from Latvia, and was visiting with friends.
He paid his £1 side bet and was unaware he'd landed the windfall, before turning to a feeling of disbelief.
He now plans to treat his family and buy himself a luxury car with his winnings.
I spent a couple of minutes unaware and in disbelief, but my friends were all jumping up and down around me with excitement
Deivis said: “When the dealer told me that I'd played an ace and won, it took a moment for my brain to register what that meant.
"I spent a couple of minutes unaware and in disbelief, but my friends were all jumping up and down around me with excitement. It was such an amazing moment.
"I've already used some of the winnings. I’ve bought toys for my two kids and plan to get the new BMW 5 Series for myself.”
Steve Longstaff, General Manager at Grosvenor Casino Aberdeen, said: “A massive congratulations to Deivis from myself and everyone here at Grosvenor Casino Aberdeen.
"It was a great moment to witness and we could see the pure shock on Deivis’s face when the ace was played.
"We look forward to seeing Deivis visit the casino in his brand-new car soon.”
