A nationwide crackdown and control efforts on cross-border gambling have achieved notable results thanks to comprehensive measures taken and the close cooperation of various departments, the Ministry of Public Security said on Thursday.

Police across the country have solved over 37,000 cases related to cross-border gambling, shutting down more than 2,600 online gambling platforms and 1,100 physical casinos, and breaking about 1,200 illegal technical service teams. In addition, a large number of suspects have been charged and are awaiting prosecution, according to the ministry.

The ministry also organized public security organs to take down overseas criminal enterprises that entice Chinese citizens to gamble illegally and to make every effort to arrest major fugitives involved in the crimes, it said.

Police in Chongqing and the provinces of Jilin and Guangdong, in cooperation with law enforcement and judicial departments in relevant countries, have successfully repatriated the leader of several major cross-border gambling syndicates and dozens of other gambling suspects.

Public security organs and relevant departments have taken comprehensive measures to address the symptoms and root causes of such crimes, constantly optimizing and improving their efforts. The authorities will always be tough on such crimes and do their utmost to ensure such criminals can't operate, according to the ministry.
