Construction of Nebraska’s Grand Island Casino Resort to kick off in October 2023
The much-anticipated construction of the $100 million Grand Island Casino Resort at Fonner Park in the U.S. state of Nebraska is approaching rapidly, as project officials have set their sights on starting construction next month.
Fonner Park's transformation into a Las Vegas-style casino destination was made possible after state voters' decisive vote in favour of the gambling-friendly project. Through the state-wide ballot referendum in November 2020, voters granted approval for the introduction of slot machines, table games, as well as sports betting at licensed racetracks all over the state.
Fonner Park, which is currently under the stewardship of the Hall County Livestock Improvement Association, has announced an exciting partnership with Elite Casino Resorts – a deep-rooted gaming entity hailing from Iowa. This visionary venture, which promises a dynamic new chapter in the state’s entertainment landscape, is expected to give rise to the Grand Island Casino Resort that will strategically be positioned alongside the racetrack.
A spokesperson for Elite has just unveiled the construction timeline, revealing that the company is targeting a ground-breaking ceremony for the project sometime in mid or late October. As far as opening of the casino resort is concerned, it will optimistically take place by mid of 2024.
Fonner Park's strategic location places it roughly 80 miles west of Lincoln – the state’s capital. It will require a convenient 90-minute drive via Interstate 80 (I-80) to reach the destination.
It was in December last year, when Elite Casino Resorts made its debut, with the launch of a temporary facility in the park's concourse. Offering an impressive array of 300 slot machines and electronic gaming tables, the temporary facility has enjoyed a substantial success thus far. As per available information, it amassed a remarkable gross gaming revenue (GGR) of $16.9 million during the January through July period of this year.
The ambitious vision for the Fonner Park casino space outlines plans for a sprawling 37,000 sq. ft. gambling-friendly venue equipped with an impressive array of entertainment options. The list of anticipated highlights includes 650 slot machines, 20 live dealer table games, in addition to a state-of-the-art sportsbook. For aficionados of sports, Elite has joined forces with Betfred Sports to manage the sports betting operations at the venue, promising an immersive and delightful gaming experience. Beyond the gaming realm, the Grand Island Casino Resort will include an opulent 116-room hotel.
