Colonial Downs Approved for New Casino Resort in Dumfries, VA
Colonial Downs Group Inc. has received approval from the Dumfries Planning Commission to build a gaming property in the city. If everything goes well, the old landfill could start being converted into a casino sometime during the second quarter of next year.
The Rose casino would be built on land connected to the Potomac Landfill. The planning commission approved the rezoning of 93.5 acres of the site this past Monday. Colonial Downs already owns Rosie's Gaming Emporium in Dumfries and the Colonial Down Racetrack in New Kent County, Virginia.
Colonial Downs is planning to build a new $389 million resort in Dumfries, Virginia. The resort will offer 50,000 square feet of gaming space, a sports bar with room for more than 250 bettors, eight more bars and restaurants, 200 hotel rooms, 1,500-seat theater and an event space spanning 7,00 square ft. Dum frie's Planning Commission approved the resort's conditional-use permit. It will hold a public hearing on the plan on September 21. If the council approves the permit, Colonial Downs will be able to purchase the land.
