Catawba Nation Expands Gaming Offerings With Live Dealer Tables Amid $700M Resort Development

Three years after the Catawba Nation rolled out a temporary casino venture in Kings Mountain, NC, they have now introduced live dealer table games. The Catawba Two Kings Casino in North Carolina is filled with slot machines, clanging and chiming amid the roar and buzz of temporary gaming space, which has recently expanded its offerings with a dozen live dealer table games. Present in South Carolina as the only federally recognized tribe, the Catawbas share deep historical ties with North Carolina, especially to their ancestral lands in Kings Mountain.

Exercising its sovereignty, the tribe operates casino games of its own under a Class III gaming compact. The compact, achieved in an agreement with the North Carolina government in 2021 and simultaneously greenlighted by the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Indian Affairs, represents a crucial stepping stone in the growth of Catawba Nation’s gaming landscape.
Since the grand opening of the temporary Catawba Two Kings Casino on July 1, 2021, the humming gaming venue has already provided almost 1,000 slot machines and electronic gaming platforms. High stakes sports betting is also offered to the thrill-seeking gamblers.
The latest development provides gamblers with the choice of live dealer table games. Casino representatives highlighted a dozen brand-new tables featuring games like blackjack, craps, roulette, mini baccarat, three-card poker, and Mississippi stud poker as the shiny new additions to the gaming area.
Plans for a permanent resort have been long in the pipeline. After overcoming significant delays due to local businessman Wallace Cheves having too large an ownership stake in the Catawbas’ permanent casino project, the tribe successfully broke ground at the start of this month on the mammoth $700 million resort complex.
The initial phase of the resort slated to launch in 2026, promises to include a casino floor with over 1,350 slots and 12 table games. A state-of-the-art sportsbook and a restaurant are also part of the plans. Future expansions look forward to enlarging the gaming floor to encapsulate more than 4,000 slots and 100 table games. Half a dozen more restaurants, along with a grand 400-room hotel, are also in the development pipeline for the Two Kings Casino.
As part of its fresh start, the Catawba Nation has enlisted Delaware North as a new partner post dealing with Cheves and Sky Boat. Commanding a vast portfolio of casinos spread across states like Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, and West Virginia, the New York-based hospitality management firm will be operating the Two Kings Casino Resort’s gaming and lodging initiatives, once the permanent integrated resort is ready.
The tribe has managed to secure $700 million in financing to breathe life into the ambitious resort project, contributing to keeping North Carolina free from commercial casinos. As a result, the Catawba resort and Harrah’s Cherokee are the only players in town in North Carolina, capitalizing on the state’s absence of commercial casinos.
