Cambodian police rescue Vietnamese woman from gambling company

Police in Cambodia's Sihanoukville City said they rescued a Vietnamese woman from an online gambling firm on Friday as part of a crackdown on illegal labor and human trafficking.
The woman, whose identity has not been confirmed, posted an "online cry for help" and gave away the location of the company where she was held against her will, which was in Buon Commune, Khmer Times reported.
The woman and a Chinese manager have been brought in for questioning. An investigation revealed that the woman had been forced to work for three companies in Sihanoukville, with the last company forcing her to work 14-15 hours per day, police said.
Over the past month, Vietnamese and Cambodian authorities have been cooperating to rescue Vietnamese workers trapped in shady casinos and other businesses as illegal labor.
On Aug. 18, 42 Vietnamese tried to swim across Binh Di River to escape from the Phoenix casino in Cambodia to Vietnam's An Giang Province. One of them drowned in the process and another was caught back.
Another 56 Vietnamese workers escaped from another casino in Bavet Town on Saturday, with the casino eventually handing over another 11 Vietnamese to local authorities.
In the first half of this year, the Ministry of Public Security has busted several rings smuggling people to Cambodia for illegal work purposes.
Authorities have also rescued hundreds of Vietnamese citizens and supported thousands of others in Cambodia with procedures to return home.
