Annual report from the Danish Gambling Authority
The Danish Gambling Authority, the Spillemyndigheden, has published its annual report on illegal gambling.
Gambling is considered illegal when the game is offered without a licence from the Danish Gambling Authority and the operator focuses its range of games on Danish players. This is revealed by several elements, inter alia, when the website is in Danish, means of payment are suitable for the Danish market such as the currency or cards that work only in Denmark, Danish customer service, fields are pre-filled with “Denmark”, “Danish”, etc. in the registration process; or Danish players are marketed directly. It is also forbidden to communicate or advertise access to illegal gambling sites. In these cases, the DGA would at first warn the operator or provider to stop such activity, if unsuccessful, it would then block and, possibly, report them to the police.
The main prerogative of these websites is to allow players to bypass the ROFUS (the Danish Gambling Authority's register of self-excluded players), and to avoid having to sign with the digital signature NemID.
The DGA actively collaborates with the major social media and app providers in order to prevent access by these means. Essential parts of preventing illegal gambling are the gambling and problem gambling educational platform – StyrPåSpillet – and the presentations made in secondary schools.
Also land based gambling falls under the DGA’s jurisdiction, therefore, illegally installed gaming machines and betting terminals, illegal poker clubs and illegal charity lotteries are investigated and sanctioned.
