UK travel agents have expressed their sadness at the closure later this month of one of the most iconic hotel’s on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Mirage, which opened in 1989 and is famed for its nightly ‘volcano eruptions’ will shut on 17 July.
The 3,000-room hotel was the first megaresort in Las Vegas. It was followed by others including the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, also in 1989, and The Venetian, with its Venice-style canals 10 years later.
Last year, gambling site Casino.org named The Mirage as ‘the luckiest’ casino in Vegas after analysing reviews of 15 popular casinos, looking for terms like ‘lucky’, ‘luck’, ‘won’, ‘winning’, ‘success’ and ‘jackpot’ to work out which casinos were likely have the most frequent payouts and happiest gamblers.

Another wrote: “Loved this hotel. Sad to see it go. Good memories.”
A third remembered how they had ‘won big’ in the hotel’s casino, and one wrote: “We stayed here on our first trip to LV, loved our suite.
The Mirage will be replaced by a 700-foot guitar-shaped Hard Rock Hotel, which is due to open in spring 2027.
