Las Vegas' Mirage casino to give away $1.6 million before closing on July 17
The Mirage casino, an iconic fixture on the Las Vegas Strip, will close its doors on July 17 after more than three decades in operation. But before it does, the casino must distribute $1.6 million in unclaimed progressive jackpots, as required by Nevada state law.
The Mirage, which opened in 1989 and played an important role in the development of megaresorts on the Strip, will hand out the substantial cash prizes over the next seven days. Nevada law mandates that any remaining balances in progressive jackpots must be paid out to players before a casino can close its operations.
Starting Tuesday, July 9, the casino will give away $200,000 in guaranteed winnings each day on its slot machines through Thursday.On Friday and Saturday, this amount will increase to $250,000. The final day of giveaways, July 16, will see $100,000 distributed to slot players. In total, the slot machine prizes will amount to $1.2 million.
Additionally, the Mirage will hold separate giveaways for $400,000 in table game jackpots. More details about the cash giveaways and game rules can be found on the casino’s website.
The closure marks the end of an era for the Mirage, which has been a staple of the Las Vegas Strip since its opening. The property is set to be transformed into a new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, with an expected opening date in 2027.
